Starting the day off early the duet of Emma Hull & Haley Grennell debut their clown themed routine to a fantastic 4th place finish in their age group. Coached by Julia Thornton, the girls came away with a theatrical and crowd pleasing swim, and a lot of great feedback from judges to continue their development this season.

The morning continued with our 2 youngest teams hitting the pool next – the Gold & Blue teams coached by Kim Davis and Amanda Cira respectively. As this was the first competitive routine competition for almost all of the athletes on these two teams the girls all had tremendous swims. The coaches both agreed that their goals for this competition to have fun, clean swims was well-earned by both teams. Now back work already the girls have lots to work on to fine tune their routines before Regionals. Way to go!!

As the snow started piling down our veterans took to the pool mid afternoon. The White team coached by Laura Mouck and Val Hould-Marchand team presented their snake routine strongly to the judges. This team swam away with bronze medals from their event and reaffirmation about their goals for the rest of the season. Our Athlete with Disability (AWD) Erin O’Neil showcased her new Prince themed routine at Waterloo to some crowd roaring applause’s. Taking home a bronze medal herself, the Waterloo Invitational was a great success for Erin. This season has proved to be a bit more difficult than last year, but you couldn’t see it in her swim at all said coach Ellen Wakarchuk. Congratulations!

Rounding out the evening portion of the Waterloo Invitational our Purple and Green teams hit the water. Our Purple team coached by Emily Hamilton and Danielle LoPresti preformed well under pressure and swam their routine to the best of their abilities. Although it was a challenging meet, the team is coming away with lots of motivation to move forward and look ahead to the rest of the season. 

Last, (but literally last to swim) but not least, our fabulous Green team and their spanish themed routine took to the water. Coached by Nicole Lowden and Julia Thornton the girls closed out the competition with the best swim they have had. Clean and energetic the coaches are enthusiastic about what’s to come for the rest of this season.

Congratulations to all of our athletes on your first routine swims in the competitive portion of the 2011-2012 season! Use this competition to motivate your teammates forward to be better athletes and reach your goals. For most people they only realize how far they have come when they look back at the videos from this past weekend in June. Don’t forget Junes only 120 days away & we have a lot in the middle.

Remember – Practice just doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.

This competition is routine only for teams and duets, and there is no gelling for this invitational. The competition is an ‘open’ event, so all athletes within both the provincial and national level can attend. The purpose of this event is to act as an ice breaker to the season. The judges also provide constructive feedback on the routines for further development.

Please connect with your team parents and coaches to begin arranging carpooling & rides. Expect to arrive in Waterloo on Jan 28th 1.5 hours prior to your indicated warm up time on the schedule provided here: 2012 Waterloo Invitational

Harbord Collegiate Institu

Just a reminder that we are training from 6:30-9:30pm tonight at Harbord pool. Please be sure to give yourself extra time to allow for arriving to this new location and the weather we’ve just received!

Drop off location point is the large tree in the above ground planter near the TSSC designated entrance door (not the identified pool door).

Exit door is pool entrance/exit door at the side of the building. All coaches & athletes should use these entrances/exits and at least 1 coach must be present until all of their athletes have been picked up.

UofT (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday):

Drop off location point is the Starbucks entrance off of Harbord. All athletes and coaches will make their way around the path way down to the 50M pool deck and Spadina change rooms for dryland training.

Dryland training should take place at the north end of the pool only.Bags should be kept in the bleachers on the East side off the ground.

Thursday evenings athletes will make their way up to the Benson pool for training.

Pick up for all evenings is at the Starbucks exit on Harbord. All athletes & coaches will use the Spadina change room and exit using the same way to meet for their pick up at the Starbucks exit on Harbord. All coaches & athletes should use these entrances/exits and at least 1 coach must be present until all of their athletes have been picked up.

UofT (Sunday):

Drop off location point is the Starbucks entrance off of Harbord. All athletes and coaches will make their way to the designated room for dryland training first through the turnstiles. Please refer to the club calendar to confirm room #’s as they can change from time to time.

For all athletes & coaches leaving regularly at 7pm they are to walk back to the Spadina change room at the 50 M pool and exit using the SPADINA EXIT. Athletes will wait inside until a parent arrives to pick them up. The other entrances & exits will be locked at 6pm and this is the only door. At least 1 coach to ensure athletes are picked up from this exit.

For all athletes and coaches leaving regularly at 9pm they are to use the Spadina change room at the 50 M pool and exit using the SPADINA EXIT. Athletes will wait inside until a parent arrives to pick them up. The other entrances & exits will be locked at 6pm and this is the only door at least 1 coach must be present until all of their athletes have been picked up.

We missed you! Tonight, Thursday January 5th 2012 Recreational classes at Leaside start up again from 6:30pm-8:00pm. This Sunday January 8th 2012 classes at Holland Bloorview and our Competitive program start up as well at their respective locations and times.

Synchro Swim Ontario is pleased to announce that the 8th annual Burning Bright for Breast Cancer campaign in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation – Ontario Chapter raised $40,000!

The Burning Bright 8-year grand total is a staggering $292,800.71. The Top Fundraising Club and winner of the Myra Gerow Award was Sudbury Synchro with the highest club total ever of $14,551.85. Burlington Synchro was second with a total of $6,209.81 and Toronto Synchro was third with a total of $3,442.

The Top Fundraising Athlete was Elizabeth Sweeny of Sudbury Synchro for the 7th consecutive year with a total of $2,790.00. Clubmates Megan Sarmatiuk was second with $1,020.00 and Emmah Cacciotti was third with $1,003.50.
